10 Home Staging Tips

  • Clean down the bathroom: Buyers are extremely turned off when they seem grimy bathroom walls. So it’s a good idea to clean them down and make them look new again. Mixing half bleach and half water together in a spray bottle makes a good solvent to help clean grime from bathroom walls. Also, for shower doors, you can mix one part muriatic acid to 10 parts water. This is also a good cleaner that can be used to increase the appearance of the shower door.
  • Paint the old bathroom tiles: Replacing bathroom tiles can be costly. However, you can save a lot of money by simply painting them. First coat them with a high-adhesion primer, then brush paint ceramic epoxy covering on top of it. This a great alternative to increasing the appearance of dated tiles.
  • Use Pedestal Sinks: Pedestal sinks are a big hit when it comes to selling a home. They increase the look of floor space in the bathroom thus increasing the bathrooms overall appeal to potential buyers.
  • Make master bedroom appealing to both sexes: This might be tricky, but you should try to ensure that the master bedroom appeals to both sexes so get rid of all the gender specific features. Give the walls a neutral color and ensure that the bedding and accessories in the room all match and coordinate with each other.
  • Stain Old Kitchen Cabinets: Old kitchen cabinets can turn off potential buyers. However, you don’t have to pay a lot of money to replace them. It’s a good idea to just stain them to give them more vibrant, modern colors, while saving money.
  • Use Stainless Steel Appliance: Stainless steel appliances are definitely in right now. However, instead of replacing old appliances with new ones that are stainless steel, just simply resurface the old ones. You can apply stick-on coverings for a fraction of the cost.
  • Use Bookshelves: Bookshelves are definitely a plus when it comes to staging. However, there is a thin line between cluttering them and staging them for a house being put up for sale. A good trick to getting the perfect balance is arranging neutral items in clusters, while making sure that no single item stands out too much.
  • Restore worn patios: If you have an old patio that can use some restoration, here’s an easy way to give it some new life with paint. First, you want to roll on a light layer of paint. After, lightly spray it with water, then dab it before it dries. This will give it a nice outdoor look that’s appealing and brings in more potential buyers.
  • Restore furniture: If you have any old furniture that might have a dull and aged look to it, you should pick up an upholstery cleaner. This will help you remove any discoloring or aged look to a furniture while saving you a ton of money.
  • Freshen up the air: Bad odors are a huge turn off to buyers. Make sure that you use an air fresher, or scented candle to remove any bad odors in the house. However, make sure the scents aren’t too strong, because that can also be a turn off to a buyer, especially if they are allergic to strong smells.
